Where to Buy in Spain
One of the main decisions you will need to make when looking to buy a property in Spain is whether you are going to buy a coastal or rural property.
To a great extent this will depend on your reasons for buying and how you intend to use your new property. If you want income from renting, to fund a mortgage for example, then you generally need to be in the more popular tourist areas that are mainly on the coast. Their is a growing rural tourist trade but it is still comparatively small.
Inland detached properties tend to have larger plot sizes, perhaps an orchard, and are ideal if you have children or would like to have additional facilities such as a tennis court. They tend to offer good value for money in terms of a size to price ratio but this is offset by the greater need to speak Spanish and in most cases poorer access to quality infrastructure.
Once you are decided on this you need to choose which of our property portfolios to visit: Costa Blanca North / Costa Blanca South, / Costa Calida / Costa Almeria or Costa del Sol.
For more information on these areas take a look at our Regions of Spain section.
